What the fuck is happening to Oz?

As long-term readers of my rants would know, I’ve been rather quiet of recent times in my other role as this nation’s most rarely accurate amateur psephologist.

It’s true that over a decades-long journey I’ve fluked a few rare wins in predicting election outcomes that far-smarter people missed but I have been known to toss my amateur psephologist shingle in the dumpster after some shocking no-where-near misses myself. I’ve always retrieved it but maybe not next time.

But silence can be golden because there’s no way I would have predicted the unfathomable rise of Aunty Pauline’s white indigenous One Nation peoples over recent months and their ability to maintain that lift in primary votes.

I appreciate that Australia is a rather racist country but for One Nation to stay hovering stubbornly around the 30 per cent mark makes no sense at … oh, hold on, maybe our lucky country has about 30 per cent of racists among its numbers?

Even so, it must be a fact, shirley, that the cookers, religious nutters, banjo-playing, conspiracy theorists, tin-hat wearing, MAGAts who follow Aunty Pauline can’t possibly being kept spellbound by any real or feasible One Nation policies to help Australia move forward. None exist.

It’s at this point, I’d like to present two views I grabbed out of The Bug‘s Xcrements-of-the-Week barrel last weekend to move this rant/psephology lesson along. Thanks to our XOTW judges, by the way, for letting me do that.

Admittedly, it looks as if The Orange Oaf and his deputy V.D. Chance – and we are all still wondering how he manged to break through a groaning diaper to get so far up the Moron of Mar-a-Lago’s arse – are going to take a real hammering at next month’s midterms, yet they can keep hold of some of their MAGA base despite their cruel putdowns of them.

It’s true that educational standards aren’t that high in the US – being the world’s biggest warmonger for many, many, decades now doesn’t come cheaply so education, health care, highway maintenance, etc, etc, etc, naturally have to suffer – but can their support base still be so fucking dum without a b to hear this trailer-trash talk aimed squarely at them and yet they don’t care? Does their devotion to a man of deep religious conviction who doesn’t believe in God override all other issues?

And what does that say about One Nation’s core base of supporters here? Aunty Pauline can boast about being the battlers’ champion yet sprout shit that workers are having things far too much their own way and bosses needed to be looked after more? Someone who has opposed most if not all cost-of-living help from the Albanese government?

The leader of a party with just a few unthought-through and uncosted policies that would send Australia broke and condemn it to climate-change disaster.

Are her supporters here as ignorant and as stupid as Captain Bone Spurs/The Orange Mussoline’s MAGAets? Or just share a fine dog-whistling ear to verbal shit a bit along the lines of the “they’re eating our cats and dogs” nonsense from Demented Don’s shit-stained mouth?

As arguably this country’s most inaccurate amateur psephologist, I can understand why One Nation leads the LNP, currently in palliative care, on primary votes and why Aunty Pauline is ahead of Anus Taylor as preferred PM – Beppo the Clown could beat The Water Boy on that score (and it’s always best not to dwell on how Queenslanders think) – but how the fuck can my country even be considering Aunty Pauline as PM material?

So, my fresh prediction that would have been so terribly wrong had it been made many months ago as ON popularity began its upward climb? It will come down over the months to come and, whether they deserve a third term or not, Albanese and his frontbench will eat the ON mob for lunch, say, half-way through the next federal election campaign.

Where’s that nearest dumpster to where I live?
