BUILDING DEVELOPMENT:
Mining magnate Gina Rinehart has accused the Brisbane City Council (BCC) of “political interference” by “deliberately tying up in red tape” her development application for major renovations to a commercial building she has bought to house the national office of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party.
It is understood that BCC development assessment officers are concerned about plans to add a 40-metre statue of Ms Rinehart and a helipad to the roof of the three-storey near-city office block. (artist’s impression in main picture)
“What’s wrong with my statue and a helipad on the roof? I own the building, or at least a trust embedded within one of the holding companies in my tax-minimising corporate web does,” an angry Ms Rinehart said.
“How dare these useless pen pushers stymie development plans by someone of my stature. I mean, how many mining companies have they ever inherited?
“It’s exactly what’s wrong with this country – people who believe they are more important than they really are.
“I make billions of dollars by digging up lots of stuff that I had absolutely no hand in creating.
“I then sell it off to foreign buyers, mainly in a country I completely oppose politically – in a country that will one day invade and destroy our nation using arms and munitions made from the stuff I sell them. It’s a proven business strategy.”
Ms Rinehart said the BCC had given no sound reason for delaying its approval for her renovations.
“They’ve kicked up a fuss about the helipad, claiming it would be dangerous, being on a three-storey office block set among much taller buildings,” she said.
“But a landing pad is essential for Pauline and Barnaby to use the choppers I’m about to gift them both and for me to land my own helicopter when I visit to check on how my investment in One Nation Inc is doing.”
Ms Rinehart said she was prepared to take the BCC to court if the council decided to “tie me up in such silly red tape”.
“I’m also prepared to buy the court if it ultimately rules against me,” she added.
