CANBERRA: National Party leader, Senator Matt Canavan, says he will be taking a deep personal interest in today’s speech by Immigration Minister, Tony Burke, outlining changes to the Albanese government’s immigration policies.

“As someone who is regularly a person of colour I will be listening very carefully to what the minister has to say,” Senator Canavan (main picture) said.

The National’s leader also took the opportunity to criticise fellow Queenslander and One Nation leader, Senator Pauline Hanson, for her comments in a September 2025 podcast in which she attacked Aboriginal people as “the most primitive race on earth”.

“As an elder of the Dragline peoples of the Open-Cut Anthracite Nation who have roamed Central Queensland for many, many decades, I took great offence at her remarks,” Senator Canavan, or Uncle Senator Canavan as he said he preferred to be formally known, said.

Meanwhile, the hosts of the September 2025 podcast (Note to subs: I have no idea what its name is. Can someone check?) which sparked controversy this week over Senator Hanson’s comments about Aboriginal people have broken their silence.

“It’s taken a year for the shit [Pauline Hanson] said to us to come to light and cause offence?” one of the podcast’s hosts said. (either at left or middle below, we really don’t know).

“As well as saying they were the most primitive race on earth, she said even more racist stuff, like the Aboriginal people didn’t even invent the wheel in their 60,000 years of living on this continent. She said all they have contributed is a few rock paintings.

“For fuck’s sake, a year to cause outrage? Was nobody listening to this crap at the time?”

The podcast’s other host (either in the middle or at left above, we really don’t know) also expressed their concern.

“Yeah, I’m concerned, very concerned,” she said. “Very concerned that nobody is actually listening to our podcast. Why else did [Senator Hanson’s] remarks not hit the headlines at the time?

“I mean I know that every man and his dog has a podcast. Some of them are hosted just by the dog, too.

“But surely someone was listening to ours at the time? I mean we’re one of only about 47 million podcasts on offer, so surely someone was taking notice at the time,” the co-host said.

The co-host added that when she said “every man” had a podcast she also included women and anyone who identified as either gender or chose to identify as transgender or no gender and the same applied to their dog or any companion animal.
