Your ranter-in-residence is very surprised at the number of you BUGgers out there who spotted the elephant in the room I deliberately did not mention in my recent essay trying to fathom why Australia’s battlers think Aunty Pauline and her white indigenous One Nation people are any answer whatsoever to their current woes.
You’d think someone would have! I’m talking about how I completely sidestepped the Australian trait that I dared not speak its name then. Endemic racism to be exact. Maybe, as a patriotic Australian, I’ve always tried to fool myself that Australians are not racist – well, most of them anyway – and my way of doing that is to hope that last week’s Newspoll giving Aunty Pauline a 30 per cent primary vote approval rating must be a completely roughish polling fuckup.
But once reality sets in and you look at the Secret Harbour byelection result in WA and the result in Sussan “This goes with this this” Ley’s former federal seat of Farrer, you are forced to accept that even One Nation voters who can read haven’t cottoned onto the fact Gina Rinehart has never once, ever, allowed the woman who once roamed south-east Queensland trading three scallops and a small drink for items she needed to ever lift a finger to help battlers with cost-of-living problems. That she has no real solutions to their plight caused by life having cruelly and unfairly passed them by. And the anger and bitterness they all share for being so badly treated by woke, socialist governments.
So what share of her current level of support can be sheeted home to their positive reaction to the racist redneck’s claim that a big drop in immigration will give them a chance for jobs they don’t want to do, and make home ownership a possibility even if they’ll never have the deposit needed to do that?
Is that 30 per cent equally divided between gullible people who think Aunty Pauline really cares about battlers, or people like Johannas Bjelke-Petersen who, just like Aunty Pauline, didn’t have a racist bone in his body and didn’t mind Aborigines at all although who would want to live next to one?! Ten and 20? Five and 25?
Will that immigration issue alone keep her bubbling along at truly unfathomable support levels for the 21 months left before the next federal poll?
And, if so, what the fuck happened to you, Australia?
