CANBERRA: Immigration Minister Tony Burke says he is set to announce the date for his much-delayed speech to the National Press Club (NPC).

Speaking during what he claimed was one of his regular visits to an upmarket hair salon in the fashionable Canberra shopping precinct of Manuka, (main picture) Mr Burke said his speech had been delayed “for legitimate reasons”.

“I wanted to get the speech just right… I mean just Right,” he explained. “So too did the Prime Minister which is why I cancelled my original scheduled appearance.

“A speech like the one nation… I mean like the one I and the PM have in mind can’t be rushed.

“Anyone nation … I mean anyone who has appeared at the National Press Club knows you get just one nation… I mean you get one chance to deliver your message.

“I for one nation… I mean I for one want to make the government’s mess on immig… I mean the government’s message on immigration clear to voters.”

Mr Burke said his speech would follow the normal format for NPC events.

“As usual the event will start around noon, we’ll all eat lunch, and I’ll start speaking around one nation… I mean one o’clock,” he said.
