Ramping fears averted!

BRISBANE: Traditional ambulance ramping chaos feared at south-east Queensland hospitals on the Ekka’s popular show public holiday Wednesday have not materialised, according to relieved Queensland Health Department sources.

By late on the show’s big public holiday in years past, seriously ill showgoers who had eaten dagwood dogs at the Ekka were trapped, sometimes for more than an hour, in stalled ambulances at major city hospitals and those in regional areas.

In the Ekka’s heyday, when 100,000 people attended on show Wednesday because they couldn’t go on thrill rides back then anywhere else, patrons suffering from DDPVAED* had to be flown to hospitals as far away as Hobart (file photo, above left) and Perth for life-saving treatment that included stomach pumping and a Bex and a good lie down.

Health department officials have put yesterday’s ramping non-event to recent Crisafulli government legislation requiring dagwood dogs to contain no less than 45 per cent of edible meat products traditionally regarded as suitable for human consumption.
