TOKYO: Fruit and vegetable sellers around Japan are witnessing some very strange behaviour as shoppers test the northern hemisphere’s summer melon harvest before deciding whether to buy the fruit.
One stall owner on the capital’s outskirts said that due to the price of melons even in the best of growing seasons, most Japanese shoppers only ever bought one at a time.
“Now they buy two and, I guess this is their new way of testing their firmness, weight and nicely rounded appearance, but they hold the pair of melons and jiggle them over and over again, often giggling along as a friend takes their picture.”

WASHINGTON, DC: A major US poll has some good news and some bad news for President Donald J Trump.
Released overnight US time, the New York Times/Siena College poll shows that 72 per cent of respondents were largely indifferent to all the vision now appearing on social media of Trump falling asleep at important domestic and international meetings.
“Voters are not marking him down for that at all,” the pollster explained as the survey of 1400 registered voters was released. “Their only beef is that up to now he has kept waking up.”
