SYDNEY: Researchers at the University of NSW (UNSW) have translated the barked interruptions by Barnaby Joyce’s dog during the One Nation MP’s interview with ABC TV’s 7.30 program last night.

Lead scientist at the UNSW’s School of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Kay Nyne, said her research team had analysed audio of the interview with high-tech animal translation software being developed at the university.

“The initial results show a very short and sharp response by the dog to several of Mr Joyce’s answers to the ABC interviewer, Sarah Ferguson,” Professor Nyne said. (main picture)

“It may seem hard to believe but the dog appeared to be giving a critique of Mr Joyce’s answers.

“The dog interrupted at key moments, even though viewers of 7.30 might not have heard all of them.

“The enhanced audio shows the animal seemed to be passing judgement on Mr Joyce’s claim that Senator Hanson was not condoning all the past actions of the criminal racist cop-bashing anti-immigration white supremacist Tommy Robinson by appearing with him and enthusiastically agreeing with his goals which are essentially to achieve a white Britain.

“The dog again seemed to give the same comment when Mr Joyce appeared to blame it for interrupting his answer to a question about whether One Nation’s policy was for doctors to report overstaying foreigners to immigration authorities to allow deportations.

“The dog’s interruption at that point seemed to suggest that it hadn’t actually barked but that Mr Joyce was using it as an excuse to avoid answering or play for time.

“The dog also appeared to comment on Mr Joyce’s claim that he didn’t know who had bankrolled the Hanson visit to Italy and the UK.

“The dog’s reaction is understandable given that Mr Joyce has had the best part of a week to find out who did foot the bill,” Professor Nyne said.

She said further analysis was being undertaken to detect what she believed was the same repeated interjection by the dog to all of Mr Joyce’s other answers.

“This seems to be a well-informed dog able to make very perceptive judgements about its owner and his public statements,” she said.
