Some of the Nine Network’s most popular shows face a big cut in their running times unless they cough up big wads of the folding stuff to use words and phrases copyrighted this week by a clever but unnamed Sydney investor.
Well, I’d call him an extortionist instead but what my latest exclusive does reveal, courtesy of my very reliable spies in the industry, is there’s no doubt about the Nine shows where executives now have a serious choice to make and they are the Australian version of Tipping Point at 5pm, the National Nine News that follows at 6pm around the nation and any free-to-air NRL broadcast from Thursdays to Sundays.
All these shows will most likely be only half their current duration if the powers-that-be decide not to pay from now on for “That’s okay” from just about every contestant on Tipping Point when their tokens don’t land where they want them to, the use of the words incredible, unbelievable and heart-stopping on Nine news bulletins around the nation, and Gus Gould declaring during NRL matches: “I reckon that’s a fair try any time”.
