WORLD RECORDS:

Guinness World Records is being taken to court by Brisbane man, Trevor Snerd, (main picture)  who claims he has suffered discrimination after having his bid to mark a new personal record rejected by the international publishing group.

Mr Snerd said he had been inspired to contact the London-based Guinness World Records after reading about a new record set in Ipswich west of Brisbane for the largest ensemble of trombone players. (below)

“After reading about the trombone record and having seen or heard about all sorts of new records accepted by the Guinness World Records people over recent years, I figured I’d have a good chance of making it into their annual book with my own record,” Mr Snerd said.

“As I explained when I contacted them, my proposed new record did not involve the ‘biggest’ or the ‘longest’, or the ‘most’ of anything, but the least.

“I was inspired by records listed by Guinness such as the world’s biggest guacamole dip, the fastest person to butter 10 slices of bread, the most people bouncing tennis balls, and the most basketballs slam-dunked by a parrot in a minute.

“I asked to be included in the Guinness World Records book as the person least interested in stupid Guinness World Records.

“But when I contacted them they gave me the brush-off very quickly which I thought was a bit rude. So I’m taking them to court for discriminating against me for no good reason.

“In fact I think their rejection might well have come in record time, so I’m following that angle up as well in my lawsuit.

“One way or another I should be in the next annual Guinness World Records book ,” Mr Snerd said.
