Guzman and Gomez pay a price

SYDNEY: The share price of the listed Australian fast food chain, Guzman and Gomez, is expected to fall when equity markets open on Monday following the revelation of the real reason it has abandoned plans to establish a foothold in the American market.

The company’s shares rose on Friday on news it was withdrawing from the US market to focus on further expanding its network of Australian stores.

But analysts expect that trend to reverse on Monday after news broke this morning that Guzman and Gomez were both being expelled from the US as part of raids by the Trump administration’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency’s crackdown on undocumented aliens. (main picture)

“I expect Guzman and Gomez to pay a heavy price for a couple of reasons once the ASX opens on Monday,” one analyst said.

“First they’ve been caught telling fibs about why they have abandoned the US. Second, how the hell did they think they could turn a quid in America where almost a quarter of the population has Hispanic or Latino heritage with the biggest group in that category being Mexicans?

“Why would they pay for overspiced, overpriced, almost tasteless, carbo-heavy Australian-made Mexican food when they have their own overspiced, overpriced, almost tasteless, carbo-heavy Mexican-made Mexican food on offer?” the analyst said.

WASHINGTON DC: White House sources have explained the main reasons behind US President Donald Trump’s decision to avoid attending the second wedding of his son Donald Trump Junior to Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas this weekend.

“While he’d love to go to the wedding, the President is erring on the side of caution at the moment when it comes to flying to Caribbean islands, given his past experiences,” an unnamed West Wing source said.

“Besides, he reckons he’ll make up for it by attending Don Junior’s third wedding which he expects some time in his third term.”

WASHINGTON DC: Tulsi Gabbard has been overheard expanding on her reasons for resigning as Director of National Intelligence in President Donald Trump’s administration.

While Ms Gabbard officially cited her husband’s cancer diagnosis as the main factor in her decision, she was also overheard by a source within her office offering another explanation.

The source said they had heard Ms Gabbard on her mobile phone telling an unknown person: “I’ve looked and looked for national intelligence at the highest levels of this administration and I can’t find it. So I give up. I’m off.”
