LONDON: Downing Street says it is “more than pleased” with the diplomatic efforts of King Charles III during his state visit this week to Washington.
“The reception given to His Majesty by US President Trump is beyond our wildest dreams,” an aide to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.
“It shows just how beneficial the King’s experience is when dealing with foreign leaders.
“It was His Majesty himself who had suggested the type of official gifts that he should carry to Washington for the President. (main picture)
“He had no qualms in giving up one of his old crowns and he knew full well what other offering should be made to President Trump to get on his good side and help repair the US-UK relationship.
“His Majesty also managed to perfectly feign gratitude at being given in return a gold-painted plastic bust of the President even while being forced to wear sunnies in the now gilded Oval Office to protect his eyes.” (main picture)
The PM’s aide said the President’s previously aggressive stance towards the UK was now expected to soften as a result of the royal visit.
“What really sealed the deal was the King’s idea to quietly drop into conversation the fact that he had a third gift for the President – a photo album belonging to his brother Andrew – which he had ‘unfortunately’ left behind in London when packing for the US visit,” they said.

WA mining billionaire Gina Rinehart has defended her gift of a private plane to One Nation leader Pauline Hanson.
Speaking at the handover of the aircraft (below) Ms Rinehart said there was “absolutely nothing wrong” with her decision to provide the plane to help Senator Hanson campaign across the nation.

“This decision shouldn’t raise eyebrows at all,” Ms Rinehart said. “It’s the type of decision that business owners like me take every day of the week.
“What’s wrong with a boss rewarding their employees now and then?”

WASHINGTON DC: US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, has again drawn criticism for using supposed Biblical quotes at his appearance before a congressional committee hearing this week. (below)
In response to a question from a Democratic Party lawmaker about the cost of the war against Iran, Mr Hegseth cautioned committee hearing members against criticism of the Pentagon’s war bill now running to at least US$25 billion.

He said he had a simple message to anyone in Congress who questioned the value of the war.
“As Captain Ahab said to the Pharmacies: ‘I’m gonna get medieval on your ass’,” Mr Hegseth warned.
He also chastised committee members who refused to bend to his demand to be addressed as “Almighty War Hammer” rather than “Mr Secretary”.
