How much bias can we bear?

On numerous previous occasions our Media Glass House researchers have taken various News Crap Australia turdbloids and its national broadshit The Australian to task for running loaded or slanted headlines.

Usually the headlines in question state an allegation against a person or organisation as fact, unlike the stories below them which invariably reveal that the claims being made are contested or yet to be proved.

Oddly, on many occasions such persons or organisations being accused via a headline are linked to the Labor Party. Funny that.

So it was with a unanimous, and very loud cry of “What the fuck!” that our MGH teams rostered on the midnight to dawn shift at The Bug‘s headquarters greeted receipt of Thursday’s edition of the Brisbane daily The Courier-Mail. (below)

There on the front page was a classic example of one of our researchers’ pet bugbears – not to be confused with The Bug‘s the soon-to-be-released range of soft toys that come complete with our MGH teams’ least favourite phrases uttered by our nation’s leaders. (below)

The Courier‘s yarn involved allegations made against former state Labor Party industrial relations minister Grace Grace who was accused in evidence given to an inquiry into those very naughty boys at the CFMEU of doing the union’s bidding.

While the big headline that declared Ms Grace guilty as charged was topped by a smaller line in red alluding to “shock claims”, the obviously intentional damage was done by the screaming “ABSOLUTE DIS-GRACE”.

Ms Grace has yet to have her say in the matter before the inquiry but the Murdoch turdbloid has made up its mind, and apparently its readers’ minds for them.

In cases such as the truly disgraceful Grace Grace headline, allegations of bias can be avoided by applying simple quote marks if the claim in question has been made by an individual or organisation.

But Thursday’s edition of the Murdoch turdbloid had no such excuse since the words were never uttered and did not appear in the story.

But speaking of missing punctuation, our MGH teams were intrigued by the headline on the story in The Courier-Mail below of the tragic death of a young girl hit by a car.

Is there anyone at The Courier-Mail who can guess what’s missing? Anyone?????????
