World Cup squad strengthened

By our guest sports reporter Tony Armstrong.

Now that the understandable euphoria of Australia’s successful bid for FIFA World Cup inclusion has subsided, the Socceroos management group has some serious thinking to do.

We might have qualified for Qatar in November on the back of that remarkable penalty shootout that some people got just a litle bit carried away over for their own good, but in the cold light of day, the Socceroos have been left to mull over the fact they could not find the back of the net once in 120 minutes of normal and overtime play.

If we are to have any success at year’s end, the Socceroos must improve their forward attack line.

To this end I can report exclusively for The Bug that when training resumes next week after Graham Arnold has given our brave lads a well-earned break, a promising young forward with an uncanny knack of getting the ball into the back of the net is joining the squad.

I don’t know much about him but I’m sure all Australians join with me in wishing Sam Kerr well.
