CANBERRA: Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has officially launched Labor’s twin slogans for the next federal election, whether it’s held later this year or next.
A beaming Mr Albanese was flanked by senior shadow ministers on the lawns of Parliament House yesterday afternoon as he unveiled both slogans; It’s Your Alternate LNP Govt and I’m Not Scott Morrison!
“If these two punchy slogans don’t get us back into government at the next election, then I’m confident they’ll put us in the box seat for government at the poll after that or at the very least on the springboard to victory for the one after,” Mr Albanese said.
One of the Peter von Onselens who comment regularly on politics said the overall party slogan was a “masterstroke of political tactics”.
“Now that Labor has hinted it will accept the Morrison government’s third stage of income tax reform – some $17 billion in tax relief that primarily benefits richer taxpayers – there’s not a struck match between both sides of politics on all major policy issues,” said the Peter von Onselen who might be a university professor.
“Labor has already junked the two big policies that cost them votes in 2019 – axing franking credits and paring back property negative gearing – so talk about a small target strategy!
“Labor simply now has to join the government in urging war with China at the earliest possibly opportunity and I can’t see any reason why those swinging voters who deserted Labor late in the last election campaign would now be more comfortable with giving the ALP their primary vote.
“And as for the more personal slogan for branding Albanese? It’s self-explanatory really. It drills into a basic question that will be on voters’ minds come the election: How good is Scott Morrison?”
