Her Majesty the Queen has gone on the offensive in the PR battle ignited by the bombshell decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to leave the senior ranks of the royal family.
My Buckingham Palace sources tell me that following the young couple’s bombshell interview with US superstar interviewer Oprah Winfrey in March, Her Majesty resolved to launch a counter-attack by granting her first-ever personal interview.
“The Queen was most upset when the Sussexes dropped their bombshell in January 2020 about leaving the ranks of senior royals and making their own way in the world based in the USA,” a senior member of the royal household told me.
“She bided her time but then came the bombshell interview the Sussexes did with Oprah Winfrey in March this year and its associated allegations of racism in the royal family and other criticisms.
“Unfortunately the bombshell death in April of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, has delayed Her Majesty’s fightback.
“But her campaign to restore the reputation of the royal family has now started with the Queen recording her own bombshell interview with Oprah.” (main picture)
My sources would not divulge the contents of the interview but assured me that Her Majesty – seemingly fortified by a few of her favourite G&Ts before filming began – drops a few bombshells of her own plus a few f-bombs and c-bombs which Ms Winfrey insisted should be “bleeped” out of the final edit.
I am told that viewers will also find out from the interview the bombshell news that Her Majesty has never watched a single episode of the British drama series The Crown based on the lives of the royal family.
In response to a bombshell question about the wildly popular Netflix streaming show Her Majesty was dismissive, saying: “We don’t watch it luvvie. We wear it.”
