Federal and state roads and traffic authorities have reached agreement on the roll-out of new road signs in all states and territories.
The Bug provides an exclusive sneak peek at just some of the new signs that will soon be seen by motorists right around the nation (main picture and below).
A spokesperson for the federal Department of Transport told The Bug the signs had been designed to supplement existing standard traffic safety signs.
“Federal, state, and territory governments recognised the need for signs to reflect actual driver behaviour,” the spokesperson said.
“So the new range of signs will work in tandem with existing traffic signs while giving motorists more realistic information about their obligations and expected reactions to existing signs.
“We think the new signs will be welcomed by all drivers because they better reflect what actually happens on our roads,” the spokesperson said.
