MELBOURNE: Online bookies have slashed the odds of the Morrison Government being returned at the May election after doyen of political commentators Barrie Cassidy told ABC’s News Breakfast program he believed an LNP fear campaign over national security and border protection would not be anywhere near as effective as in the past.
One bookie told The Bug: “Barrie gave some fairly logical and persuasive reasons for his assessment based around the notion that Australians are nicer people than they used to be but history tells us he’s invariably wrong.
“He’s the Peter FitzSimons of politics. We’ve saved so much money over the years slashing the odds of sports stars or teams Peter’s predicted won’t win matches.”
Bookies have slashed the odds of an LNP win from 4.25-1 to 2-1 following Cassidy’s comments.
