AMERICAN MID-TERM ELECTIONS:
As Australia’s best known amateur psephologist, I’ve been surprised at just how many BUGsters out there have asked for my predictions for how the US Mid-Terms are going to pan out. You’d think at least one person would have wanted to know my thoughts on what the state of play will be around mid arvo tomorrow (Wednesday) our time.
Seeing BUG aficionados are all politics tragics, you will all know that most polls are tipping a blue wave with the Democrats to easily take the House of Reps by a comfortable margin.
But decent, caring, normal, people – most of the world – are still fretful of the outcome in the Senate where only a third – some 34 seats – face the voters’ praise or wrath over the next 24 hours.
The Democrats need to tip a chaffcutter’s handful of Republican senate seats to dominate the Congress and turn Donald Trump into the cockless featherduster he so deserves to be.
So here’s my prediction and I’m only going to focus on one electoral battle; the Senate seat up for grabs in supposedly neither red or blue Michigan.
Trump and senior members of his team have targeted the Democrats’ candidate Abdul El-Sayed with Islamophobic attacks and sickening unproven character assassination attempts over recent times.
I’m indebted to AI for the following summary of some of those vicious slurs that should have no place at all in any country professing to be a decent democracy. In America’s case, a decent Christian democracy.
Speaking in Port Huron on October 25 to support Republican candidate Mike Rogers, President Trump baselessly labelled Abdul El-Sayed a “jihadist” and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Trump remarked that Abdul El-Sayed would be the “only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he’s allowed to go into the Senate” and compared opposing his candidacy to passengers fighting back against hijackers on United Flight.
Trump and other top Republicans referred to Abdul El-Sayed by disparaging or distorted names such as “Abdul Ramadan,” “Muhammad,” or “Abdul Muhammad Satan,” questioning his loyalty to the United States.
Me again. I did see the rally clip where Trump said he could call Abdul El-Sayed “Muhammed” as often as he liked because he could do that as President.
This disgusting shit pile-on from a disgusting pile of shitheads should have Michegonians (subs: please use whatever the right word is here) voting Abdul El-Sayed at least three-to-one over Mike Rogers but in two-horse races, even if countries not as truly fucked as the US is, that’s unlikely to happen.
We have Trump monotonously repeating the line that he’ll abide by the result of the Mid-Terms as long as they are run fairly and squarely, namely if he and the Republicans win, the election will have been run fairly and squarely; if they lose it will be the exact opposite and woe betide American if that happens.
So, if you BUGgers are strapped for time, I think the Michigan senatorial race is the perfect microcosm to gauge where the US is right now; heading further down the crapper under Diaper Donnie or pulling itself out of the dunny bowl and gasping for clean air.
And if you want to earn some easy folding money, back my prediction that by the end of tomorrow (Wednesday) our time, the count in Michigan at close of counting will see the Muzzie terrorist traitor and bomb-thrower at 53.16 per cent to the Trump brown-noser’s 46.84!
