Netanyahu campaigns on housing

ISRAELI ELECTION:

TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has put housing affordability on the election agenda just hours before voters go to the polls to decide his political future.

Campaigning in the final days before Tuesday’s election, Mr Netanyahu (main picture) said his government’s policies had delivered “the greatest opportunity for home ownership Israelis have ever seen”.

The Prime Minister confided that he could not understand how other developed nations – including what he described as “antisemitic Australia” – had not struck upon the type of innovative policies he had implemented to address the housing affordability issue.

“As your Prime Minister I have taken unique actions to address housing affordability,” he explained.

“While most other governments around the world try, and fail, to put people into their own homes, I have taken a completely different approach.

“I have acted decisively by taking a two-pronged approach to put Israeli’s into other people’s homes by simply taking them over or demolishing them to allow for redevelopment.

“We see the result in the West Bank each and every day. And we see my policy already working wonders in Gaza.

“So far we have opened up more than 70,000 opportunities for Israeli’s to settle in Gaza, with more opportunities to come I can assure you,” Mr Netanyahu said.
