Bleijie relaxed about emblem leak

BRISBANE: Queensland Deputy Premier, Jarrod Bleijie, says he is unfazed about the leaking of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games’ emblems and has talked up his role in its development.

The official emblem designs were leaked accidentally in an official Olympics Organising Committee video before the end of an extensive and expensive online “teaser” video campaign screening over past weeks that “revealed” the component parts of the emblem in the lead-up to what was meant to be its official release next week. At a news conference this morning Mr Bleijie (main picture) said as the minister most deeply involved in overseeing preparations for the 2032 Games he had been “well aware” of the emblem design.

“The fact the emblem has been accidentally revealed in full in an online video posted by Olympic organisers is no biggie,” he said in an effort to put the best spin on the incident.

“As someone who was instrumental in the emblem’s development I’m actually pleased that it’s now been revealed.

“I made sure I attended all of the early meetings of designers involved in the emblem’s design and development.

“I had very firm ideas about what the product, the emblem, should look like and I made sure the designers got the message.

“Having now seen the emblem, a lot of people think it represents the crest of a cockatoo, but they’d be wrong.

“In fact it’s just an idea that came off the top of my head, so to speak,” Mr Bleijie said.
