SYDNEY: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was carried shoulder high by giddy Labor Party branch members at a Sydney function last night after news broke of what party official said was “a huge surge” in support for the federal government. (main picture)

The respected polling firm DemosAU has released nationwide research conducted from 10 to 14 September showing Labor’s primary vote improved by 2% since August to reach 28%. (below)

“That’s the highest result for Labor in DemosAU polling since February this year,” a senior Labor figure told one of The Bug‘s federal political correspondents before repeatedly blowing a party whistle and swigging from a plastic champagne flute at the Sydney event.

“This latest poll shows we’re almost redneck and neck on primary votes with One Nation which sat at 26% in early September.”

The ALP official appeared not to hear The Bug reporter’s comment that the One Nation result was also up 2% on its August primary vote.

“It just goes to show that the PM and his team in Canberra are delivering the Right pol…… I mean the right policies and decisions for the One Na… I mean the nation. It’s a fantastic result,” the party official continued while adjusting his official party hat.

“If people just think about it for a moment, the enormity of what Albo and his team have achieved will sink in.

“They have single-handedly lifted Labor’s primary vote by 2% in a month. Yes, a whole 2%! It’s now at 28%. Yes 28%!

“That means if you walk down the street and pass 10 people, then almost three of them – yes, almost three, can you believe it? – almost three support the Labor federal government. Fantastic!

“And Albo and his team have done that in circumstances where they are up against an opposition – and by that I mean One Nation, not the opposition – that has a leader who can’t string two sentences together, backed by a team of misfits and cookers in tinfoil headwear, with a policy cupboard totally bare except for a thinly disguised White Australia Policy 2.0. Yep, Albo’s done us all proud.”

When The Bug‘s reporter pointed out that the DemosAU poll had a margin of error of 3.3% so that Labor’s vote in September may have been just slightly more than 24% and One Nation’s may have been almost 30% he appeared not to hear and blew his paper whistle again before draining his champagne flute and dancing into the crowd.
