A number of senior Australian academics have come to the defence of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as he battles a scandal of his own making following comments he made in a podcast interview about the gift of two melons from the Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi.
In a phone interview with The Bug, Professor Benjamin Hill Junior, (main picture) the Sydney University’s Dick Emery Chair in the School of Double Entendre, said criticism of the PM was “hypocritical in the extreme”.
“What Albo said about the Japanese PM was pretty tame, that’s why all these attacks on him really get on my tits,” Professor Hill declared to the accompaniment of a drum roll and cymbal crash that suddenly and inexplicably played in the background as he made his point.
Researchers at the University of Wollongong leading a study of early-to-mid 20th century comedians agreed with Professor Hill’s assessment.
Dr Sidney James II and his research colleague Dr Barbara Windsor (below) said their findings so far suggested Mr Albanese was in the clear when it came to any genuine concerns that his remarks were evidence of misogyny.

“Sure, in retrospect, he could have – and maybe should have – phrased his words much better,” Dr James said with a somewhat lascivious guttural laugh.
Dr Windsor agreed, adding: “Yes indeed. Everyone is sometimes put on the spot and with 20-20 hindsight we can all utter words that are taken out of context.
“If our research so far reveals anything, it shows we can all make a boob or two now and then,” she said to the accompaniment of a drum roll and cymbal crash that suddenly and inexplicably played in the background as she made her point.
Ms Cupid Stunt, (below) lecturer in Morecombe and Wise Studies at Melbourne University, said the current political attacks on the PM since his podcast appearance proved that politicians must walk a fine line in their public utterances.

“Any pollie, especially a PM can pay a price at the next election because voters have long mammaries and some are just big knockers,” he/she said to the accompaniment of a drum roll and cymbal crash that suddenly and inexplicably played in the background as he/she made his/her point.
“It just proves anything they say needs to be in the best possible taste,” he/she added.
