9 News risks missing out on trophy glory!

Nine Network news bulletins around the nation now risk the real danger of missing out on the chance of winning some of The Bug‘s uncoveted media awards due to a puzzling change to 9now’s treatment of such programs.

The washed-up, bitter old hacks who compile our two media columns first noticed a few days ago that 9now had removed the traditional offering of the last seven or so editions of the news services out of our capital cities and regions. Only the previous night’s bulletin was available for any people in Australia still interested in legacy news services to catch up on recent events, with the rider that even that would be removed at 7pm the next day. Last night’s (Thursday’s) 6pm bulletins were the only ones to appear, but the deadline for removal was at 7pm on August 13.

Maybe the habit of showing a week’s library will slowly return over the coming days? Let’s hope so.

So, why has this recent practice of 9now put Nine Entertaonment Co. newsroom in danger of missing out on Bug glory?

Take Nine News Queensland over recent times. Just like Barnaby Joyce and his drought-envoy reports, our media compilers over the past week or so scribbled down on soggy beer/rum coasters some very good entries for some of our awards – possible winners! – and they include Melissa Downes or her reporter telling viewers a ship burning at sea had been completely surrounded by water (A worthy No Shit Sherlock trophy contender), the outrageous promos and then the story of a new “adventure” on the Story Bridge Climb that looked about as exciting as being given a blow job by a jellyfish that could have easily been slipped into the Beat-Up of the Year, Clickbait of the Year and Hyperbole of the Year prize barrels.

Also in the past week have been contenders for the trophy for the most repeated video clip of a car/plane/train crash or a near fatal miss to help fill out a 60-miniute news service, especially at weekends when nothing of any real importance happens.

Now9 can you see our problem? With a proud tradition over 37 years of trying to be as accurate as possible with everything we make up, we couldn’t confirm our beer/rum coaster jottings with the exact words used or how many times an incredible, heart-stopping, horror video was shown over and over and fucking over again to soak up unprecious minutes!
