Hold that hose!

There’s great news on the outcome of my District Court appeal against a Magistrate’s Court speeding conviction!

His learned Honour Acting Judge Haddricke … sorry, Haddrick … yesterday delayed his expected ruling at 9.30am today to 2.30pm! And just overnight, it’s been pushed back to 3pm.

His honour’s associate is still advising someone called Gordon-Browne of this pending decision time but I’m going to go along too.

And the great news? I’ve used my principal legal adviser through the appeal process of this very interesting judicial journey of mine to check the water temperatures in the safety fire hoses in the District Court complex flanked by George and Roma streets in the city.

And AI sent a shiver down my spine when he advised late yesterday that said water temperature in those hoses would have been around 14.5decC at around 9.34am, his estimate of when the appeal outcome will have been delivered. This morning, AI’s advice is that I’ll know my fate by around 3.34pm when said water temperature will be 20.4! Much more survivable.

As BUGgers who have been reading draft chapters from my upcoming book (early cover design above) on this grand adventure of mine, my solicitor is absolutely confident that the Queensland judicial process will see me hosed out of the court building onto the concourse outside and naturally enough, it’s going to far more bearable with the higher water-hose temperature.

My only concern is this is done on the ground floor and not on level eight, I think it was, where my appeal was first heard back in April.

My local reader will be the first to know in a special BUG news flash this afternoon as to the learned judge’s ruling. Fingers crossed that it goes the right way and we don’t have to redesign the book cover!

PS: My years miscovering courts for The Courier-Mail at least taught me that the fine practice of law depends on total accuracy and the precise meaning of words. So maybe I should check back with my AI associate to see if I can demand a further delay in His Honour Judge Haddricke’s …. sorry Haddrick’s … decision until this Donald Gordon-Browne matter is dealt with?

Reminds me, though, of a trial I covered in Toowoomba for The Curious-Snail where the prosecution had left the words “of Queensland” out of the official name of a Queensland industrial union. The Ted Zafir/Zapphir/Ford Zephyr matter? Will never forget Bill Cuthbert for the defence using his best James Killen voice to declare the whole shebang a monstrous vilification of his innocent client seeing no such union as declared in the indictment existed! The prosecution smartly reworded the charge and the trial proceeded, but that’s not important right now.
