No media outlet with a rock-solid respect for the principles of professional journalism would ever expose themselves to public view and understandable scorn if it published something that they knew was clearly wrong. Shirley?
And while one of our MGH compilers runs down to the local tobacconist and grabs a single sheet of cigarette rolling paper to compile a list of Australian’s media outlets who always practice quality journalism where the truth matters, let’s talk about The Australian. Or as we at The Bug have always called it: Australia’s national broadshit.
It truly is a shit paper, not that any decent, clear thinking, Australian would ever insult their arse by wiping it with a sheet of Oz, folded or crumpled.
Which brings us to today’s topic … a promotion midweek for the Murdochs’ loss-leading broadshit on X, formerly known as a profitable concept. That’s it, at top and below.

Anyone with a basic knowledge of English – and that sadly excludes far too many in the nation’s mainstream media – knows that surges as a present-tense verb indicates support for something is on a very solid upward trajectory.
Whoever wrote this X plug was, firstly, not a journalist’s arsehole and, secondly, had no fucking idea of, or simply ignored, the results of the paper’s most recent Newspoll, regarded by many as the nation’s most reliable.
Published on Monday, Newspoll had One Nation’s primary vote at 28 per cent, down from a reported peak of 31 per cent, Roy Morgan’s two weekly polls before The Australian‘s boast of a surging support for Senator Aunty Pauline’s white indigenous One Nation mob had the party’s support in late June at 26 percent, down 5.5 points from the previous week and a further two points down to 24 per cent earlier this month. A drop of 3 per cent in The Australian‘s own pollster and a combined 7.5 pre cent drop in a fortnight according to Roy Morgan is some ongoing and current SURGE! Add in the Redbridge poll from late June – ON’s primary vote at 29, down two – and maybe, just maybe, in the interests of truth, justice and what used to be the Australian media way, the present-tense verb SLIPS or SLIDES should have been used.
Perhaps “journalists” at the Oz read such polling charts upside down after hearing corridor whispers in Holt Street, Sydney, that the Murdochs do prefer such charts to be read that way when circumstances demand to push a political narrative rather than the truth.
It’s true that One Nation’s extraordinary rapid rise in the primary vote of recent times is indeed newsworthy; sadly however is the fact that much of the MSM is doing its unlevel best to keep Aunty Pauline’s momentum going.
The Bug’s media compilers (of both Media Glass House and Mediocre Bytes) and its general staff will stick with the view that if Aunty Pauline thinks it’s a good idea to address a few more National Press Club luncheons over the next two years, her polling figures at the 2028 poll will roughly match her IQ.
