An ABC online news pointer that appeared mid afternoon on the national broadcaster’s home page (above and below) has infuriated Liberal Party of Australia federal president Tony Abbott.

“Am I going to shirtfront the ABC chairman and news director over this,” the former prime minister railed in a brief statement. “I bet you are. You bet I’m me”.
“There’s no way the Liberal Party needs to resort to such measures. Not yet is your best bet anyway.”
An ABC spokesperson responded quickly to the former federal member for Warringah’s furious outburst, saying that someone had clearly hacked the ABC’s website and the relevant authorities had been notified.
“At 3.10pm, we uploaded a perfectly innocent news pointer (below) and even if we had nothing to do with what Mr Abbott has been sadly exposed to online, we apologise unreservedly to him and his party.

“There is no way any professional scribe at the ABC would have considered the version that Mr Abbott was subjected to as a legitimate, newsworthy topic. Well, not yet, anyway.”
