Entire Origin Blues side axed!

The entire NSW Blues men’s side humiliated 44-24 by the Queensland Maroons at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last night has been axed and will play no part in the State of Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane in just under three weeks.

The shock decision was taken earlier this afternoon in an emergency telephone hookup of the NSW NRL executive, and called by its chief executive officer David Trodden.

Trodden is understood to have told his colleagues: “We thought we’d put together a team of absolute champions for the G last night but as that adage says and as it turned out, they were roundly beaten by a champion team”.

It was when an executive member exclaimed that the NSW side had played ‘like a bunch of pussies’ that the meeting quickly decided who was the ‘champion team’ needed to take on Billy Slater’s side if NSW was to have any chance of regaining the Origin shield, and the NSW Blues women’s Origin side, unbeaten in 2026, has already been called into training camp.

The decision means the start of the NRL women’s 2026 season that was to have kicked off on July 2 with a clash between the Cronulla Sharks and the Newcastle Knights will be postponed to later next month.
