Trump abides by court order

WASHINGTON DC: US President Donald Trump has given an uncharacteristically subdued response to a court ruling derailing one of his pet projects.

On Friday a US District Court judge ruled that the Trump name could not be added to the John F Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in the nation’s capital.

In December last year the new Trump-appointed board of the Kennedy Centre agreed to add the President’s name to the venue’s official title.

But Judge Christopher Cooper struck down the move saying that the name of the prestigious building could not be altered without an act of the US Congress.

Judge Cooper’s ruling prompted a swift, but surprisingly conciliatory response from the President.

“I will comply with the order that requires me to separate my name from the Kennedy name at the centre,” Mr Trump said in a post on his Truth Social account.

“In fact, I’ve already done exactly that. I have separated the two names utterly and completely,” he added in a caption to an accompanying photo. (main picture)

In a follow-up post the President offered Judge Cooper’s family a state funeral in recognition for his service to the US judicial system.

The post expressed deep condolences from the President and First Lady Melania Trump for what Mr Trump described as “a simple case of mistaken identity during an ICE operation later today in Washington DC”.
