A bitter verbal stoush has broken out between two of the talents on the set of ABC TV’s News Breakfast program.

My usually reliable insiders at the program’s Southbank studio in Melbourne have told me the show’s stand-in weather presenter …. (Subs: Please check and insert her name. I’m off to an early opener.) … was in tears yesterday morning after normal presenter Nate Byrne rang in from holidays to berate her for “blatant misuse of my intellectual property”.

I’m told Byrne screamed down the phone: “Waistcoat Wednesday was my idea from the very beginning of my television career.

“It’s all part of my branding along with my amazing dimples.

“I’ve been inextricably linked with Waistcoat Wednesday since I was a trainee at the Bureau of Meteorology.

“I even wore a waistcoat every Wednesday when I was serving in the Royal Australian Navy.

“I also had great success in the RAN when I introduced Fuck-Me Boots Friday but the ABC asked me to drop that branding when I came on board at News Breakfast even though I came on board many an RAN vessel.

“I repeat, the words Waistcoat Wednesday are trademarked by me and any visual reference to that through your choice of outfit today breaches my IP and trademark rights!”

Byrne ended the call by yelling down the phone: “Any repeat of this next Wednesday will lead to immediate legal action. Bitch.”
