Spotting quality journalism…

when you see it!

The Bug’s Media Glass House compilers are indebted to federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton for setting them straight on what makes for powerful, objective, balanced and fair journalism as practised in this wide brown land of ours.

We contacted his office after Mr Dutton gave poor Katharine Murphy an almighty kick up the arse as she left the Guardian Australia building to take up a PR job with Anthony Albanese. Mr Dutton’s only regret was that it wasn’t The Sydney Morning Herald’s David Crowe leaving the mainstream media for redder pastures.

While some of our team began researching Crowe’s recent efforts to see how irresponsible, unbalanced and biased he has been as a politics observer, we asked Mr Dutton’s staff to give us examples of the powerful, objective, balanced and fair journalism as practised in this wide brown land of ours that the alternate PM so admires.

The first image the staffers sent through was the collage (at top and below) from various Newscorp Australian mastheads after the government broke its promise to stick with the Morrison’s government’s third-tier tax cuts.

A flurry of other examples followed including this Tele opinion piece explaining why the Labor Government doesn’t love Australia…

… and this one from Peta Credlin, expressing much the same sentiments….

… and then this…

….followed by an enormous number of Sky News Australia story plugs including just a small taste below…

… and of course several contributions from The Australian‘s Peter Van Onselen.

We had to plead with Dutton’s staffers that they had well and truly made their point as to what their boss sees as powerful, objective, balanced and fair journalism as practised in this wide brown land of ours.

They were a tad disappointed as they had so much more material as to what constitutes powerful, objective, balanced and fair journalism as practised in this wide brown land of ours from other Sky News journalists and many other leading News Corp Australia politics commentators including Janet Albrechtsen, James Campbell, James Morrow and of course Vikki Campion.

They would also have been more than happy to send audio tapes of just about any commentary on politics from Nine Entertainment Co. radio shock jocks Ben Fordham and Peter Gleeson.

The Bug is indebted to Peter Dutton and his office staff for helping make us realise that over the coming 15 months and then on the hustings proper that Albanese and Dutton will be able to pitch their messages to the Australian electorate on the most level of playing fields that can only be provided by a nation committed to a mainstream media that practises objective, balanced and fair journalism as practised in this wide brown land of ours.
