Lady Georgina starts Flinders campaign

Lady Georgina Downer of the Adelaide Hills has begun campaigning in the Victorian federal seat of Flinders as the presumptive Liberal Party candidate following the decision by sitting member Greg Hunt to retire at the looming election.

The Health Minister told Parliament on Thursday afternoon that he wanted his replacement to be an articulate, successful and respected Liberal woman much-loved and admired by her local community.

“Well, obviously that’s me, isn’t it” Lady Downer told The Bug this morning after she flew across from Adelaide overnight and sipped a flat white at an upmarket seaside Portsea cafe as her workforce from her ancestral seat of Pout House fanned out to begin door-knocking homes throughout the Mornington Peninsula.

“The official word of my candidacy will come through shortly,” Lady Downer said as she glanced expectantly at her mobile phone.

“Sorry to be dressed in what daddy calls my connecting-with-the-commoners clobber but one must do what one must do if you want to serve your country and rescue it from the dreadful pickle it’s in,” she said, although adding after a short silence “but Mr Morrison has my full support at this point in time.”

Lady Downer then invited The Bug to accompany her on her visit to the Portsea Bowling Club (pictured at top) where she presented a large novelty cheque in her name and plastered with the Liberal Party logo for $1.2 million to double the size of its gaming room, the funds having been drawn from the Regional Railways Timber Sleeper Replacement Scheme.

Lady Downer is pictured below in her normal finery several days ago when she proudly unveiled the stunning summer wallpaper put up throughout the 121-room Pout House, its stables and out-buildings.
