The heir to the throne, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, is soon to be revealed as the next James Bond following the retirement from the role of UK actor Daniel Craig.
What is more, the next film in the lucrative Bond franchise will be based on a screenplay written by senior members of the Royal Family.
My Buckingham Palace sources tell me that this week’s attendance by His Royal Highness and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, at the London premiere of Mr Craig’s last Bond film No Time to Die, was a chance for the Prince to give a definite “yes” to producers who have been pestering him for many months to take on the role.
“Prince Charles will soon sign a six-picture deal and has been suggesting storylines for future films,” a source close to the Royal Family told me.
However, I can reveal that the script for the next Bond film is already finalised and I can also break the sensational news that it has been written by the Prince’s own parents, Her Majesty the Queen and her late husband the Duke of Edinburgh.
I am told that Her Majesty began penning the script soon after she appeared with Mr Craig in the surprise vignette screened as part of the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games. (pictured)
“Writing the Bond movie script in which her own son will now star became a project she shared with her husband, the late Prince Philip,” a Buckingham Palace insider told me.
“It was Prince Philip who first saw the potential for his eldest son to take the leading role and to reinvent the Bond character as well as the royal family and make it more relevant and popular in the 21st century.
“The pair put the finishing touches to the screenplay just before Prince Philip died earlier this year and they took advantage of the change in lead actor to make it largely a prequel to the more recent efforts of Mr Craig.”
I am told that the film contains large slabs of flashback scenes set decades ago in which Bond is unhappily married and having an affair with a now-married former girlfriend.
My sources tell me that production of the new movie, No Time for Di, is expected to start very soon.
The only thing holding it up is the casting of the traditional Bond villain, in this case Her Majesty and her husband have written an evil character called Margen Meakle who is intent on destroying British institutions, starting with the royal family, and who starts her rampage by brainwashing and kidnapping a royal prince.
“Shooting will start as soon as the producers find an actor who can play the 30-something, female, African-American character,” a palace source told me.
