Sports anchor rues gaffe

MEDIA:

Respected ABC TV sports broadcaster Paul Kennedy has issued an unconditional apology following “an unforgiveable error” on the broadcaster’s News Breakfast program yesterday.

In a statement released this morning through the corporation’s lawyers, Mr Kennedy (pictured at top) said: “In one of my reports during a sports segment on Tuesday’s program, I referred to an upcoming match at Wimbledon as Sam Stouser’s first match of the tournament.

“Of course I meant to say “only” match and I apologise unreservedly for such an unforgiveable error.”

Kennedy’s colleagues have sprung quickly to the sports anchor’s defence with Michael Rowland saying that in his opinion the gaffe rated four at most on the Trioli scale.
