Readers react to Segal’s plan

OPINION POLLING:

A poll of all subscribers and readers of The Bug reveals strong opposition to key recommendations of the second report to the Albanese Government by its Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism, Jillian Segal.

Ms Segal’s latest report includes proposals to change Australia’s immigration policies to refuse entry if “credible concerns” are held that a visa holder may hold antisemitic views, presumably including any opposition to Israel’s proven genocide and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians.

Ms Segal also recommended that internal ombudsmen now employed by publicly funded broadcasters the ABC and SBS should be replaced by “independent” external ones, presumably to stymie reporting of Israel’s proven genocide and ethnic cleansing inflicted on Palestinians.

Her report failed to address the reporting standards of other media outlets such as those operated by the Murdoch media group News Crap Australia which continue to label anyone who even vaguely expresses opposition to Israel’s proven genocide and ethnic cleansing inflicted on Palestinians as antisemitic to avoid reporting on Israel’s proven genocide and ethnic cleansing inflicted on Palestinians. Head of The Bug‘s in-house opinion polling department, Samantha Pling-Erra, (main picture) said the poll asked readers and subscribers to Australia’s favourite family news website just two questions.

“Given The Bug‘s ongoing in-depth and authoritative coverage of media-related issues, we decided our poll should be focus on the proposal by Ms Segal for replacing the in-house ombudsmen at the ABC and SBS and I must say it returned expected results,” Ms Pling-Erra said. (below)

However, a cautionary note about The Bug‘s poll was sounded by the opinion polling industry peak body, the Confederation of Australian Reliable Pollsters (CRAP).

A CRAP spokesperson said the sample size of The Bug‘s poll – covering 100% of its reader and subscriber base – was “way too small to be anywhere near accurate”.

“The sample size – which I understand you can count on both hands – is a minute fraction of the standard margin of error applied to any poll of this nature,” the CRAP spokesperson added.
