FUTTBUCK, ID: Former US Vice-President Al Gore says he is very concerned about moves by the Albanese Government to enact stricter laws on how the internet and social media platforms work in Australia.

Speaking to reporters just prior to his jazz trio the Al Gore Rhythms (main picture) took to the stage at a folk music festival in Futtbuck, Idaho, Mr Gore said from what he had heard about the new laws, he feared they would threaten his and his fellow band members’ livelihoods.

“As the person who single-handedly invented the internet I always take an intense interest in these types of laws,” Mr Gore said.

“So far I have only heard radio reports about the laws being planned Down Under but all the news stories mention my band by name, and lots of times too.

“I don’t know why my band is in the sights of the Albanese Government, but if the laws go ahead in Australia, then that’s a big market we’ll be missing out on.”

Mr Gore said since he had put together the Al Gore Rhythms featuring himself “and my fellow former US Presidents” Bill Clinton and Joe Biden, the band had built “quite the following through live appearances and online sales of our music”.

At that point, Mr Gore was asked to clarify his claim to be a former US President.

“Well, I’m no lawyer but … Hang on, I am a lawyer. So if you wish to be picky I can explain the technicalities, the inconvenient truth, if you like,” he responded.

“If your recall, I actually won the 2000 election but the Supreme Court at the time decided that George W Bush should serve my first term for me. And the second one too.

“At the time I really didn’t consider claiming the election had been stolen, or try to mount an insurrection to stop my stand-in’s inauguration.”

Mr Gore said if the new Australian laws banned or heavily regulated his band’s performances, then he, Mr Clinton, and Mr Biden would all have their livelihoods curtailed.

“After all, as former US Presidents all we are entitled to as a pension is a little more than $250,000 a year,” he explained.

“I can’t run my private plane, Air Force I Actually Won, on that amount of money alone.”
