POLICE ROUNDS:
The owner of a new small business in the inner-Brisbane suburb of Fortitude Valley claims police harassment and an inexplicable backlash from clients are threatening its viability just weeks after opening.
Brita Filter (main picture) said she had recently moved from Helsinki to Brisbane specifically to open her own sauna and massage parlour.
“I am a fully qualified masseuse and it’s been a dream of mine since I was a little girl in Finland to have my own massage parlour with a sauna and spa bath,” Ms Filter said.
“I moved to Brisbane to live my dream. My business is 100% legitimate and all I want to do is deliver my professional services and bring joy to people’s lives and put a smile on their faces.
“But since it opened police from the licensing branch have raided the place accusing me of all sorts of illegal activities. I’ve even sprung undercover cops pretending to be customers.
“Then there are some officers who even suggest that I should be paying them and ask if I’m in on ‘the joke’ whatever that means,” she said.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson, Detective Herbert Jack, denied the allegations of harassment.
“There’s nothing to see here. That’s our official response so print that and nobody gets hurt. Okay?” he told The Bug.
Ms Filter said her business was also at risk from clients demanding refunds for the services she delivered.
“I can’t understand it. First the police keep turning up and harassing me and then so many clients ask for their money back, with some being so angry and agitated that I am forced to refund them just so they’ll leave,” she said.
Ms Filter said unless she could resolve both problems soon she would be forced to close her Happy Finnish Massage Parlour and Spa and return home to Helsinki.
