SOCIAL MEDIA:
American technology billionaire Elon Musk has revealed plans to make another change to the name of his social media messaging platform.
After buying Twitter for US$44 billion in late 2022 Mr Musk floated the idea of changing its name and formally did so in July this year by branding it as X.
“When I bought the company I made it clear I was not a big fan of its ex-name,” Mr Musk said.
“Just to be clear, by that I mean its previous name not its X name as it is right now.
“But circumstances have forced me to reconsider the new name I gave the platform – that’s its X name not its ex-name which had nothing to do with me.
“I’ve now decided to officially change the company’s name again, based on the reaction to the name X from platform users, the market, and the media.
“So from today I’ll be registering ‘X, formerly known as Twitter’ as the company’s official name.
“The means terms such as ‘tweeting’ or ‘x-ing’ will be redundant and people should start using the term ‘X, formerly known as Twitter-ing’ and the ‘Twitterverse’ will, of course, be ‘the X, formerly known as Twitter-verse’.
“This should make things a whole lot simpler,” Mr Musk said.
