Abbott offers to serve Pell’s jail time

SYDNEY: Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has offered to serve any jail time a court may impose on convicted pedophile Cardinal George Pell.

A clearly distraught Mr Abbott, holding an impromptu media call outside his Warringah electorate office earlier today, wiped away tears as he told journalists the Cardinal George Pell he knew and loved, Australia’s most senior Catholic clergyman, “could not possibly have done the things he has been accused of”.

“Cardinal Pell has been my spiritual guiding light for much of my adult life,” said Mr Abbott, a former trainee priest himself and an old boy of prestigious St Ignatius’ College in leafy Riverview in Sydney’s north.

“If Cardinal Pell is given any jail time whatsoever, I’ll serve it for him.

“It’s the least I could do after every thing he’s done to me.

“Besides, if you spent more time serving a jail sentence for George Pell, your life might be more interesting.

“I challenge anyone who has spent any time with Cardinal Pell as I have and who have witnessed first-hand his inherent decency and his undying love for his fellow man to say they were left untouched by him.”
