Groundhog Day sets the scene for USA

U.S. POLITICS:

The political climate in the United State of America will remain the same for the next two years, according to the results of the annual Political Groundhog Day ceremony held this week in the small Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney.

The event is held on the day after the traditional annual Groundhog Day made famous in the 1993 film of the same name starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell.

Political Groundhog Day involves a similar sequence of events with a groundhog  being taken from an artificial tree stump and “telling” one of the event organisers its political “predictions” for coming months and years.

groundhogday-1Head of the organising committee, Ned Ryerson (pictured), told The Bug the groundhog used in recent years was not available for the 2019 event.

“Instead of the famous Punxsutawney Fil, which is short for Filibuster, we had to settle for one called Punxsutawney Donald (main picture and below),” Mr Ryerson explained.

“While the substitute animal was like Fil and other normal groundhogs in most ways, there were distinct differences.

“For instance, he was somewhat overweight and had a different almost unnatural colouring compared to other groundhogs.

“Usually groundhogs make either a chattering sound or they emit a sport of ‘chuck-chuck’ noise which is why they are also called woodchucks.

“But the one we chose for this year’s ceremony tweets, like a little bluebird.

“When I took him out of his tree stump in front of the crowd and picked him up and listened to what he was saying, Punxsutawney Donald tweeted that we are in for more of the same over the next two years.

“Then he kept on tweeting. Even in just the few moments I was holding him up for the crowd to see I distinctly heard him tweet about a ‘yuge’ wall being built despite the Democrats wanting to throw open the borders to terrorists, thieves, murderers, and rapists.

ghog1“Then he went on to tweet about ‘fake news’ outlets spreading lies, a ‘witch hunt’ over lies about Russia, a trade war with China, and then general mutterings about crooked Hillary.

“The distinct impression Punxsutawney Donald left with me was that we are in for more of the same, politically speaking, in the next few years,” Mr Ryerson said.
