Bans lifted immediately

Melbourne: Cricket Australia has announced that the year-long bans on Steve Smith and David Warner and the shorter ban “on that other bloke” over the  “sandpapergate” controversy in South Africa are to be lifted immediately. Board members came to the unanimous decision while watching Australia’s first innings unfold at the MCG today.

Sydney: An unemployed labourer who used a cricket bat to bludgeon to death the man who invented the “Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi” chant  18 years ago has been sentenced to “time served” after pleading guilty in Downing Centre Court to the brutal murder in a city laneway earlier this month. He had been held in custody on remand for 22 days.

Melbourne: The Indian Cricket Board of Control has rejected a request from Cricket Australia that Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft be allowed to bat for Australia in their second innings in the third Test at the MCG. A spokesperson said the Indian board might have given the request “serious consideration” but CA had wanted those three to bat on top of the existing team of eleven.
