Comedy festival honour for Sky hosts!

STANDUP INVITE TO MONTREAL:

Two of Sky LNPNews Australia’s most loved and respected hosts, Paul Murray and James Morrow, have been invited to take part in this year’s Montreal Comedy Festival in July.

The festival is regarded as the world championship of standup comedy and not only will Murray and Morrow be the first comedy duo to perform there but organisers have waved them through the opening rounds of competition and they will proceed straight to the quarter-finals.

A festival spokesperson told The Bug that someone had sent them the tape of their improv performance on the set of Sky LNPNews Australia (at top) the night after former Prime Minister Scott Morrison had appeared on Seven’s Spotlight program to explain why he needed medication for the anxiety and stress he had endured as prime minister for four years.

“We knew none of that background, of course, but can I just say my colleagues and I virtually pissed ourselves when Murray opened their routine with lines like this: “It did feel like a certain type of psychological warfare and I don’t think any human being was going to be able to come up against that.

“But it was Morrow’s response that had us getting on the phone to you guys Down Under and demanding they appear at Montreal.

“Do you know if Morrow wrote his own material when he said this: ‘There was this, just, relentless campaign against Scott Morrison. There was a kind of dialectic between him and his enemies that, that, they kind of fed off each other in a pretty interesting way. There was something about Scott Morrison…because he was so normal, it made his enemies absolutely furious. This normal suburban existence is what the progressive left hated. They made him the focus … they made him the scapegoat. He bore the sins of what they perceived of Australia and its failings because it was too white picket fence and everything else’.”

The festival spokesperson added: “Because he was so normal! Now that surely is standup comedy gold even though the tape we were sent of their side-splitting routine showed they were sitting down.

“They say the best comedy has a streak of pathos to it and the image Morrow and Murray have painted of this poor chap whose health is suffering because of the endless campaign by the insensitive left is in its own way heart-breaking.

“When they appear here, I truly believe they will be able to share with the audience the nightmare that Morrison went through.

“Is it true that the poor man throughout his premiership had to rely on the very limited pushback against these hideous and relentless attacks by the woke left that could be provided from time to time by News Corp Australia, the commercial TV networks, The West Australian, the Nine shock-jocks and, sadly, even the ABC, and the $100 million plus, virulent anti-Labor advertising campaigns by Clive Palmer in the 2019 and 2022 election campaigns?

“No wonder Morrison’s health suffered so much that God started to talk back to him and he ended up tackling that young soccer kid towards the end of that 2022 campaign.

“On top of everything else, the workload with all those ministries he was forced to administer would have brought anyone undone.”
