… it’s sending our MGH compilers suicidal!
Our open letter barely a week ago to Jordan Baker, editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, has failed dismally.
Our campaign to get her sub (standard) editors to folio pages in a cool, calm, professional manner has had hairs on it for some years now, which is why we hoped Ms Baker could finally bring it to an end by her personal intervention. (that post below).
But today’s (Easter Friday’s) edition has our MGH people looking for a cross to nail themselves to, and here’s the reason…

Yes, of all the ways a SMH sub can fuck up when there’s a Hardly Normal wraparound and the fake second cover is folioed as it often is as PAGE 3, the worst and most inaccurate is to say it came from PAGE 1. To say it came from the front page or the cover page are bad enough, but calling page 1 page 3 is monstrously inaccurate, something a metropolitan daily sub should be able to avoid without even blinking. Or thinking. To make things worse, sub fuckups like this one normally happen on Wednesday and Friday shifts. From now on, we’ll also be opening up Friday editions of the Herald with much trepidation.
So, not for the last time – especially right now as our MGH compilers are thankful that Bunnings is closed so they can’t pick up a hammer and large nails – here’s our explanatory graphic about today’s edition.

And this fridge magnet we’ve been sending to the SMH for quite a while might also be of help.
