CANBERRA: The federal opposition has stepped up its attacks on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s address to the nation last night on the current fuel crisis.
Opposition Leader, Angus Taylor, said Mr Albanese’s three-minute speech did not contain any of the information the Liberal and National parties believed should have been included.
“We were looking for the Prime Minister to scare people shitless as we have been doing,” Mr Taylor said.
“There was also no mention of the big issues the opposition has been pursuing, namely that net-zero emissions policies, a push for renewable energy, immigrants, and woke transgender policies have all caused or aggravated the fuel crisis.
“But that didn’t happen. It was a bland, say-nothing, do-nothing address that told people only what they already knew, so it was an opportunity wasted.”
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) rejected the criticisms, saying there had been new information given to Australians in the address.
“For starters the Prime Minister himself insisted that such a landmark address should contain substantial details,” the PMO spokesperson said.
“That’s why he decided he should take a few moments in his speech to announce Wednesday’s Gold Lotto numbers. (main picture)
“And as for being ‘bland’, well, it was Albo giving the address after all. Let’s not expect miracles.”
The spokesperson confirmed that a proposal for Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Richard Marles, to present a follow-up address to the nation had been scrapped.
“That decision was made not because Richard had nothing to add, but because of the problem we had securing an on-screen translator who could simultaneously tell viewers what the fuck Richard was saying as he spoke.
“Plus, for Richard a three-minute speech would have meant 10 minutes of air time, so we canned it.”
