Hey Leigh Sales! We can answer that.

Yesterday ABC News Online – or more correctly given this week’s strike action at the national broadcaster, ABC News Backonline – rolled out one of its biggest guns in the form of Leigh Sales, former host of its 7.30 chat show.

Our Media Glass House researchers took note of Leigh’s presence on the national news website, given her journalistic pedigree.

By the way, they do hope she won’t mind them calling her Leigh because it saves them the agony of deciding whether to use Sales’ or Sales’s as we faced in typing the previous paragraph.

Leigh has the reputation of tackling the big, big, stories of national, sometimes international, interest so our MGH teams sat up and took notice of her most recent effort.

And what an effort it was. As summarised in the item’s headline, Leigh posed the question “Will Kyle Sandilands really sue radio network ARN?”

Our MGH staff clicked on the item and began reading about the latest machinations in the saga involving Sandilands and his former on-air partner in a Sydney FM radio brekkie show, Jackie Henderson known as Jacki O.

They read on for several screens…..

Then they read a few more screens of Leigh’s breathless analysis….

Then they read even more…….

Finally, after around 1,800 words, Leigh’s yarn came to an end.

At that point our MGH researchers reached a conclusion of their own.

First they realised they had wasted lots of their time because, second, they also realised that they could answer Leigh’s headline question – Will Kyle Sandilands really sue radio network ARN? – with the short and simple five-word answer: Who gives a flying fuck!

Or maybe even cut it down to four words, leaving out “flying”. That would be around 1,796 fewer words to wade through than in Leigh’s effort.

You see, for weeks now our MGH teams have held their tongues while witnessing the avalanche of “news” stories in various media outlets about the Sandilands-Henderson bust-up.

They rapidly grew tired of our nation’s overwhelmingly Sydney-based news outlets coverage of a Sydney-based story that in reality impacts a fraction of the fraction of the Sydney population that once listened to the putrid output shovelled at them by the Sydney radio station airing the Sandilands-Henderson show.

Our MGH teams have a plea of their own to all such outlets: Stop with the breathless minute-by-minute coverage of an overpaid, under-talented fat fuck and his former sidekick whose combined demise has only raised the standard of Australian radio.

They should also ask Leigh not to waste her talents on such low-rent shitheads and to please find some real and important stories to cover.
