The column that has fun with the smaller mistakes and missteps of Australia’s mainstream mediocre; that pays homage to those sweet little fishes that individually don’t amount to a full meal but collectively can cause a tummy upset over the overall state of the once great and noble craft of journalism in this country.
So maybe Tony Abbott was right all along and all this talk of climate change wrecking the world is all crap. The polar caps aren’t melting at record speed. Glaziers not disappearing all over the place. Water not lapping at the doors of Pacific islanders.
And why do we know this? In a yarn on Aussies’ travel destinations changing markedly with the Middle East at war, Nine News Queensland’s graphic artists put together a global flyaround of the parts of the world benefitting from that tourist upsurge. Other new destination hotspots all looked in proper proportion and would make any reputable world-map maker proud.
But look at the size of Antarctica (at top and below).

Does the world’s largest continent look like its sloughing away under the relentless assault of a rapidly warming climate? To paraphrase a regular TV ad: “Australia, you’re sitting on a monster!”
Now, of course, Nine News might have gotten perspectives slightly wrong when it comes to Down Under and our very cool southern neighbour.

The Murdoch media’s national broadhsit The Australian recently published an online item listing the Australian millionaires and billionaires who run their own private jets, no doubt in some cases to avoid mixing with riff raff and others not of their kind, eg: taxpayers, on commercial flights.
But we can’t help but wonder why the list was illustrates with a aircraft – in an action video no less – that was clearly equipped with propellers.

Our MGH teams also wonder if the list should have included News Crap’s co-head honcho, the largely Australian-based Lachlan Murdoch, whom they seem to recall keeps a private jet on hand to help with his commuting to and from the US. Or maybe it’s officially US-based so it doesn’t count?
