WASHINGTON DC: There were chaotic scenes at the US Capitol overnight when congressional representatives, Supreme Court justices, military officers, and other senior government officials were forced to rush back to the House of Representatives chamber when President Donald Trump resumed his State of the Union speech.
After Mr Trump apparently ended one of the longest State of the Union speeches at one hour and 48 minutes and departed the chamber, the packed audience also left thinking the speech was over.
But after taking a break for 15 minutes in an anteroom for a diaper change, Mr Trump prepared to re-enter the chamber to continue speaking only to be told that members of the audience were on their way home.
A White House source said text messages were sent urgently to all guests directing them to return to the Capitol and after a delay of a further 15 minutes Mr Trump was able to again be introduced to continue speaking.
In the second part of his State of the Union speech which lasted a further two hours, Mr Trump returned to his criticisms of those Supreme Court justices whose majority decision recently blocked his international trade tariffs.
After singling out individual judges who supported the decision Mr Trump retrieved large and apparently freshly extruded dog turds from under the lectern (below) and began hurling them at the judges beginning with Chief Justice John Roberts who deftly dodged the projectile.

The second part of his State of the Union address had a distinctly Australian flavour as President Trump talked the assembled guests through plans for a new Trump Tower on the Gold Coast. (main picture)
Mr Trump spent more than 30 minutes of his resumed speech detailing the features of the building and pointing out the presence at the back of the chamber of his son Eric Trump sitting at a card table.
“Eric has off-the-plan contracts for each one of you to sign which will cost you only a million dollars to put a deposit on one of these magnificent apartments overlooking the golden beaches of one of Austria’s best holiday resort cities – one of the best Europe has to offer,” he said.
As he spoke a team of armed ICE agents entered the chamber and stood guard at all exits.
Mr Trump went on to explain that the payment of a deposit was compulsory for all in the audience if they wished to return home to their families.
