Today I can report to The Bug reader on a new concept in TV entertainment programs that our national broadcaster, the ABC, will offer soon to Australian audiences.
My sources within the national broadcaster tell me that the new program will blend two important ingredients that have been a feature of many modern television productions.
“Viewers would have noticed that these days stand-up comedians – or I should say, stand-up alleged comedians – feature heavily in all sorts of TV programs,” one of my sources within the ABC told me.
“The other ingredient is content that prompts people to break down in tears.
“Highly emotional content that sparks even a single tear, or better still a torrent, has always been TV gold. So any program that combines the two is sure to succeed,” my source said.
They explained that the new ABC series now in production would be titled Comedians Cutting Onions.
Each 30-minute episode will consist entirely of a number of stand-up comedians, or alleged comedians, cutting plates of specially sourced highly pungent onions.
A pilot featuring veteran alleged comedian Mick Molloy (main picture) was apparently very well received by a test audience.
“This new show is likely to rate through the roof when it goes to air,” my source said.
“The ABC has even had its legal department draw up agreements for the production of versions of the new show in foreign markets.
“The agreements also cover the creation, marketing, and sales of program-related merchandise such as knives branded with the program’s name, as well as facial tissues, and even a line of branded onions.
“The ABC knows it missed out badly by not stitching up the global merch rights for Bluey and they don’t want to make the same mistake again,” my source said.
