Retailers across Australia have this morning reported a total sell-out of buckets, sick bags, and any kind of receptacle capable of holding human vomit.
A spokesperson for the nation’s biggest hardware chain, Bunnings, said all types of buckets had “flown off the shelves” in the past few days and would not be replenished anytime soon because of the lead times involved in importing replacements from China. The same situation has been reported by major supermarkets Coles and Woolworths.
Independent and franchised pharmacies have also reported a complete sell-out of vomit bags.
Spokesperson for the Australian Retailers’ Association, Price Check, said the shortage was directly attributable to the imminent visit to Australia by Israel’s President Isaac Herzog.
“All of our members tell us that Australians have been buying up as many buckets and sick bags as possible in preparation for hearing the speeches that Prime Minister Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong will give to Mr Herzog when he lands in Australia,” Mr Check said.
“Apparently some consumers have cited possible remarks by Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles, for their purchases, but that’s a pretty constant trend and the Herzog visit hasn’t altered the usual high-level of Marles-inspired sales of buckets and vomit bags.”
