QUEENSLAND POLITICS:
The Queensland LNP government of Premier David Crisafulli has been fined $55 million by peak consumer protection bodies both federally and in the Sunshine State for “repetitive and deceptive advertising” aimed at Queensland voters.
The Bug can report exclusively that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and Fair Trading Queensland only issued the massive fines after the Crisafulli government refused late last year to cease describing itself as the “new” Queensland government.
A Fair Trading Queensland insider told us: “We in conjunction with the ACCC issued fair warning to the Queensland government in early November last year to cease and desist from running advertisements on various platforms using the words “new government” considering they were now a quarter of their way through their term.
“The late-October 2024 state poll was 12 months behind us in early November when we issued those first warnings about these monstrous fibs and we were appalled to see state government advertising (at top and below) plugging their infrastructure policies that aired in early February still boasting of a “new “ government 15 months after their election win. Fifteen months is more than 30 per cent of their term.

“Would you expect a new car dealership to be allowed to stay in business if they tried to flog as new a car with say, maybe, 25,000 clicks on the odometer?”
“Or go to a dog breeder to buy a new puppy and they try to sell you a fully grown dog?”
Premier Crisafulli was unavailable for comment on our exclusive.
